1.0 SDMS CMEs: 1.0 "Other" Credit. Most of us will experience a work-related injury during our careers as sonographers. We love our profession and our patients, but to take care of them, we must also take care of ourselves. This presentation will identify the problematic muscle groups to medical sonographers. The focus will be on the importance of incorporating resistance training exercises specific to preventing work-related injury of the upper back, lower back, neck, and shoulders. Steve Bernhardt

Steve Bernhardt is the Abdominal Sonography instructor. He has been a Medical Sonographer since 1982. Educated at Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma with specialties in abdominal, obstetrical, vascular and phlebology ultrasound. His experience includes 21 years at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana supervising both the general and vascular ultrasound departments. Presently practicing sonography and owner of Vascular Health Imaging in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. ESP faculty member since 1993.

4.25 SDMS CMEs: 4.25 Point of Care Ultrasound .75 SPI, 1.5 VT, 2 OT Credits. In this lecture, you will learn the definition and utility of the Point of Care (POCUS) Exam. We all know holding a transducer is easy, however, understanding the basic physics of ultrasound is essential for proper diagnosis. We will discuss the basic concepts of which transducer is best when scanning different sections of the body. You will learn about POC of the aorta and its major branches. Quick assessment and interpretation of your finding are key. Continuing through the course you will begin to understand the basic venous anatomy and pathophysiology of the legs and how to perform a POC duplex for the diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis. We will cover POC MSK Ultrasound. Learn the sonographic appearance of normal bones, tendons, ligaments, etc. Gain confidence in your abilities to differentiate between structures with best-in-class tips from ESP’s MSK physician expert. And finally, get inside the mind of an ER physician and learn best-in-class tricks of the trade to arrive at a quick interpretation as you learn about POC in Trauma, the eFast Exam.



Brian Tollefson

Brian Tollefson has a rare clinical expertise in both emergency and sports medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he has practiced for a number of years. As an attending physician and professor of emergency medicine, Dr. Tollefson lectures regularly on emergency, point of care, and musculoskeletal ultrasound. He is the Director of the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Program, Director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship Program, and serves as the Vice Chair for Education in Emergency Medicine.
