  5.0 SDMS CMEs: 5.0 Vascular Technology Credits. This presentation provides an overview of hemodynamic principles such as flow and pressure relationships, as well as the pumps of the leg. Iliac vein compression (May Thurner Syndrome) is essential to understand, therefore we will cover duplex ultrasound technical caveats along with protocols of how to perform an abdominal venous ultrasound with a focus on the iliac veins. We cover two often-perplexing problems in the vascular laboratory; a patient presenting with recurrent disease as well as pulsatility in the venous system. And finally, we will discuss and try to help you understand why reflux times do NOT correlate with disease severity.

With a Master's Degree in Exercise Science and extensive experience in adult echocardiography, she is the perfect person to answer all your questions. Alicia is also active in the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), where she has served as faculty for the Annual Scientific Sessions, various committees, and writing groups, and is the representative to the IAC-Echocardiography Board of Directors.

  

  Ashlee Davis

  RDCS, ACS

  Ashlee is currently the Chief Technologist of the Cardiac Diagnostic Unit at Duke University where she has worked as a Cardiac Sonographer since 2008. Ashlee has been active in the American Society of Echocardiography serving on multiple committees, writing groups, and was honored to be part of the first inaugural class of the ASE Leadership Academy. In addition to ASE, she is involved in the CCI ACS writing committee, SDMS, and local echo societies giving talks and participating in annual meetings.

  Ashlee received her bachelor's degree in Medical Imaging from the University of Oklahoma. She is proud to hold both ACS and RDCS registries. Through the connections she has made in the small world of Echocardiography, Ashlee has been able to travel all over the country and internationally, teaching others about echo. Ashlee has spoken at national conferences, worked with Dr. Joe Kisslo teaching people to “Think in 3D”, been invited to contribute to publications in Journals and textbooks, traveled to Rwanda to help patients with rheumatic heart disease, and had the opportunity to participate in many echo research projects.   7.5 SDMS CMEs: 7.5 Vascular Technology Credits. To perform an adequate duplex ultrasound evaluation for venous insufficiency, an understanding of venous hemodynamics is critical. This presentation provides a solid overview of venous hemodynamics from the perspective of duplex evaluation. An anatomical review of the iliac veins, popliteal, and calf veins will be covered as well as how to perform the best duplex ultrasound of these areas. There will be an emphasis on the calf veins including the tibial, peroneal, gastrocnemius, and soleal veins as well as how to identify and evaluate them properly with ultrasound. The techniques, especially patient positioning is covered. We demonstrate several examples of small saphenous vein pathology and how it can impact venous system hemodynamics. We cover anatomical review of accessory saphenous veins and how to differentiate these vessels from tributaries.   Alicia Armour is the Health Center Administrator at Duke Triangle Heart Associates. She oversees the cardiology clinic including diagnostic staff (echocardiology, stress testing, ambulatory monitoring, device clinic, and nuclear testing), nursing, medical assistants, and Advanced Practice Providers (NP, PA). With a Master's Degree in Exercise Science and extensive experience in adult echocardiography, she is the perfect person to answer all your questions. Alicia is also active in the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), where she has served as faculty for the Annual Scientific Sessions, various committees, and writing groups, and is the representative to the IAC-Echocardiography Board of Directors.

  

  Ashlee Davis

  RDCS, ACS

  Ashlee is currently the Chief Technologist of the Cardiac Diagnostic Unit at Duke University where she has worked as a Cardiac Sonographer since 2008. Ashlee has been active in the American Society of Echocardiography serving on multiple committees, writing groups, and was honored to be part of the first inaugural class of the ASE Leadership Academy. In addition to ASE, she is involved in the CCI ACS writing committee, SDMS, and local echo societies giving talks and participating in annual meetings.

  Ashlee received her bachelor's degree in Medical Imaging from the University of Oklahoma. She is proud to hold both ACS and RDCS registries. Through the connections she has made in the small world of Echocardiography, Ashlee has been able to travel all over the country and internationally, teaching others about echo. Ashlee has spoken at national conferences, worked with Dr. Joe Kisslo teaching people to “Think in 3D”, been invited to contribute to publications in Journals and textbooks, traveled to Rwanda to help patients with rheumatic heart disease, and had the opportunity to participate in many echo research projects. Ashlee is excited to be involved in the future of echocardiography.  

  

  Steven Walling

  Steven Walling is currently the program director and clinical coordinator at the Hoffman Heart and Vascular Institute School of Cardiovascular Technology in Hartford, CT. He graduated from Springfield College with a BS degree in Exercise Science in 2001. Steve is a registered Advanced Cardiac Sonographer and works as an adjunct faculty member with the Cardiac Ultrasound program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Worcester, MA. He has served on multiple committees with the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and earned his ASE Fellowship (FASE) in 2013. As a nationally recognized speaker and educator, Steve has lectured at the ASE, SDMS, and hospitals throughout the country. He has also lectured internationally, most recently working in hospitals in Germany and Australia.

  Sara Skjonsberg BS, RVT, RPhS, graduated from Seattle University's diagnostic Ultrasound Program in 2013. She worked for the University of Washington DE Strandness Jr. Vascular Lab for 4 years where she was lucky enough to have extensive venous training with Dr. Mark Meissner who jump-started her involvement with the American Vein and Lymphatic Society, Society of Vascular Ultrasound and American Venous Forum.   Ann Marie Kupinski is the president and co-technical director of North Country Vascular Diagnostics located in Capital District Region of New York. She is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Radiology at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. Ann Marie is a member of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, a senior member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and a fellow of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound. She has served on the Society for Vascular Ultrasound’s board of directors. She is a current member of board of directors for the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Vascular Testing. She has published multiple journal articles and book chapters on vascular diagnostic techniques and has lectured extensively. She is also the author of the textbook Diagnostic Medical Sonography: The Vascular System, published by Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins. She has been a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) since 1986 and became a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in 2008. She received her Ph.D. in Physiology in 1996 from Albany Medical College.
